10 Reasons I love my port!

I got my port placed a little over a month ago and just got to put it into use for the first time. While I knew there were several benefits, which led me to my decision to get one, my experience so far has been phenomenal! I was so stubborn when making the decision, but now I wish I had done it sooner. However, I was nervous. I wanted to make a list of my 10 favorite things about my new port that I have just experienced so that if there are any others out there that are nervous, you can read this list and realize how cool it will be to get one!

Now that I am out of the hospital it is much harder to find time to write these posts, especially when I’m getting ready for vacation. WOOHOO!

Anyways, the second staff member at Froedtert Hospital that I would like to cover is Laura. She was my nurse for a few years and then got promoted (yay, Laura!). Luckily, this promotion meant that she still gets to stay on my floor and see me pretty much every day, just not take care of me. It was funny when Laura and I first met because we found out that we were from the same hometown. Then after some talking we discovered that I actually graduated high school with her little sister! So after that we had bonded.

First off… I wanna lead with my EXCITING NEWS that my PFTs were 81% today!!!!! (That’s higher than they’ve been in years!!!!)

Anyways, back to the real point of this post… While I’m in the hospital I just wanted to write about some of the amazing staff that takes such good care of me while I’m here. They can seriously make or break a stay. With being here for a couple of weeks at a time, it is very important to have a good staff. Luckily, many of the nurses on my floor are about the same age as me. I have befriended several of them (even though half of them have left me!). It’s always nice knowing that I’m gonna get to see a friendly face when I get admitted.

Alrighty, so this has been an incredibly eventful week! First was the CF Walk that was amazing and super fun. Then that night I got sick and wound up in the hospital on Wednesday. It all happened so fast! I didn’t want to mess around for a week or so on oral antibiotics and end up in here anyways, so I just skipped that step. Then I found out that I am getting a new car when I get out of here. So even though it sucks being stuck in the hospital and being sick, it’s actually been an incredibly eventful week!
